Kelleytown

Basic Info

Kelleytown is a small unincorporated area in the Northeastern section of Henry County. The community is named after Reuben Kelley, an early settler in this county region. Realtor and local businessman Beau Kelley, a descendant of Reuben, writes that

The inception of the Kelleytown Community is closely tied to Benjamin Moseley (1787–1851), the brother of Silas Moseley. Reuben Kelley (1800–1875), an early settler of Henry County, further strengthened the community's roots by marrying Mary Moseley (1807–1895), Benjamin's daughter. The couple established their residence in close proximity to Benjamin Moseley's settlement.

Land ownership records and census data reveal Reuben Kelley's origins in Greene County. Today, the remnants of their historical homestead stand in a state of disrepair along Kelleytown Road. Nestled on the property's rear end is the original Kelley family graveyard, featuring ten graves, three of which remain unmarked. The weathered and fallen monuments bear witness to the passage of time, offering a poignant glimpse into the history of this once-thriving community.
